Certification Cram Review Course

This training covers the IBLCE exam grid and will bring participants up to date on the current information and research on lactation. Designed to cover key lactation knowledge as quickly as possible. This course is intensive and fast paced to prepare the attendee to initially sit for the IBLCE exam or prepare to recertify by exam.

Day One

  • 8:00 a.m.–8:15 a.m. — Welcome and introductions
  • 8:15 a.m.–10:30 a.m. — Maternal Anatomy and Physiology, Composition of Human Milk with review questions
  • 10:30 a.m.–10:45 a.m. — Break
  • 10:45 a.m.–12:00 p.m. — Maternal Pathology, slide review
  • 12:00 p.m.–12:45 p.m. — Lunch
  • 12:45 p.m.–3:15 p.m. — Infant Anatomy and Physiology, Infant Pathology
  • 3:15 p.m.–3:30 p.m. — Break
  • 3:45 p.m.–5:30 p.m. — Techniques and Technology, Psychology/Sociology

Day Two

  • 8:00 a.m.–8:15 a.m. — Slide review of previous day
  • 8:15 a.m.–10:15 a.m. — IBLCE, How to Study, Nutrition, Growth and Development
  • 10:15 a.m.–10:30 a.m. — Break
  • 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. — Public Health, Pharmacology
  • 12:30 p.m.–1:15 p.m. — Lunch
  • 1:15 p.m.–3:00 p.m. — Research, Ethics
  • 3:00 p.m.–3:15 p.m. — Break
  • 3:15 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. — Slide review
  • 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. — Practice exam, answer review and discussion

15.5 L CERPS, 1 E CERP, 16 nursing contact hours.

This course is for staff preparing to sit (or recertify by exam) for the IBLCE exam, usually CPAs and DBEs.

  • Describe four elements of assessing a breastfeeding dyad.
  • List five maternal conditions that affect breastfeeding.
  • Discuss appropriate use of lactation technology.
  • List four study strategies in preparing for the IBLCE exam.
  • Identify various maternal and infant conditions in a photograph review.
  • Identify your areas of weakness for preparing for the IBLCE exam.

All Lactation education Consultants training staff are required to have been an IBCLC for over 5 years, and therefore, have recertified at least once. Three instructors from the list below will provide the presentation of this program and assist with questions.

The deadline for registration is two weeks before the start of the training. All registrants will be placed on a short waitlist until approved by the Midwest region breastfeeding coordinators. If there is room available after WIC staff have registered, the training will be opened to maternal child health community partners. Once registered, all communication will come from Lactation Education Consultants (Stephanie Hutchinson).

Once registered all participants will be mailed a spiral bound book with all handouts plus information for further study. The course will also provide a link to a practice exam on the second day of the program, if participants desire additional practice exams, an optional Exam Practice Book can be purchased through the website and digitally downloaded.
