Refresh, Renew, Recertify: A Lactation Update

Lactation professionals are always searching for new and continuing education. This course was designed to meet the needs of any person working with breastfeeding families at WIC. This program will contain fresh, updated knowledge to all staff looking to increase their lactation knowledge. The content will provide continuing education perfect for anyone recertifying or just needing an update. All topics were developed directly from the IBLCE Content Outline for those who need or want just a few more credits in any of these areas.

One-day live virtual program 8:00 am to 4:30 p.m. No pre-course work or homework required.

  • 8:00 a.m.–9:00 a.m. — Update your clinical skills: what is new in lactation technology.
  • 9:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m. — Reinforce lactation techniques: Case studies beyond effective milk transfer.
  • 10:00 a.m.–10:15 a.m. — Break
  • 10:15 a.m.–10:45 a.m. — Current techniques for supporting infants with congenital anomalies including ankyloglossia.
  • 10:45 a.m.–11:45 a.m. — Supporting parents struggling with milk supply issues.
  • 11:45 a.m.–12:45 p.m. — Lunch
  • 12:45 p.m.–1:15 p.m. — New medications and their effect on lactation: What is in the research?
  • 1:15 p.m.–1:45 p.m. — What is new about food intolerances and allergies.
  • 1:45 a.m.–2:15 a.m. — New research on milk composition and the human milk microbiome.
  • 2:15 p.m.–2:30 p.m. — Break
  • 2:30 p.m.–3:15 p.m. — Induced and re-lactation: supporting parents.
  • 3:15 p.m.–3:45 p.m. — WHO Code in digital media: Advocacy and policy
  • 3:45 p.m.–4:30 p.m. — Empowering families and yourself; Ideas and group discussion.

6.5 L CERPs, .5 E CERP, & CERP Total and 7 Nursing CEUs.

This course is available to any staff interested in updating and increasing their lactation knowledge including PCs, DBEs and CPAs in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Minnesota.

Due to high demand, this year’s OA Grant trainings will be limited to primarily WIC Staff. For more information, please contact MWRtrainings@mphi.org.

The deadline for registration is two weeks before the start of the training. All registrants will be placed on a short waitlist until approved by the Midwest region breastfeeding coordinators.
