Beyond the Shape: Compassionate Support for Curvaceous Breastfeeding Mothers

This live, virtual 2-hour course is dedicated to enhancing participant’s ability to provide tailored, empathetic lactation support for individuals with curvaceous bodies. This course explores the unique challenges and needs faced by curvaceous breastfeeding mothers, offering practical strategies and compassionate guidance to improve their breastfeeding experience and duration.

This is a live, virtual 2-hour training with one 5-minute break.

Lactation contact hours have been applied for. Participants must attend the live, virtual session and complete an evaluation to have access to their CERPs.

This course is available to WIC peer counselors, CPAs, RD, RNs, and lactation staff in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Due to high demand, this year’s OA Grant trainings will be limited to primarily WIC Staff. For more information, please contact MWRtrainings@mphi.org.

Participants will learn:

  • The challenges curvaceous individuals may face during lactation.
  • The importance of centering body positivity in lactation support.
  • Body-diverse positioning to eliminate strain and stress for the lactating dyad.
  • To utilize various tools and resources designed to support breastfeeding success for curvaceous individuals.

The deadline for registration is 10-14 days before the start of the training. All registrants will be placed on a short waitlist until approved by the Midwest region breastfeeding coordinators. If there is room available after WIC staff have registered, the training will be opened to maternal child health community partners.

Once registered, all communication will come from Birth Queens and Milk Queens (Bianca Nash-Miot). There is no fee for this training. In the event you need to cancel or reschedule a training, please email MWRtrainings@mphi.org.

This is a live, virtual interactive training. Participants need a computer with good internet, Zoom, and camera. No extra resources are necessary before, during or after this course.
